Great Bridge High School graduate Courtney Adams is the Chesapeake Sports Club Female Athlete-of-the-Year. Courtney is a 2014 graduate and is currently attending Bridgewater College on a Track & Field scholarship.
While at Great Bridge High, Courtney was a 4 year letterman on the girls’ gymnastics team.
As a freshman at the Virginia High School League (VHSL) AAA State gymnastic championship Courtney placed 4th in the vault, 2nd on the balance beam, 2nd on the floor exercise, and captured the bronze medal in the all-round competition.
As a sophomore at the VHSL AAA State championship Courtney won the silver medal on the uneven parallel bars and floor exercise, and finished 4th in the all-round competition.
As a junior at the VHSL AAA State championship, Courtney placed 3rd on the balance beam, captured the silver medal on the uneven parallel bars, won the state title in the floor exercise, and captured the silver medal in the all-round competition.
Last winter as a senior, Courtney dominated the competition at the high school level. At the VHSL 5A State championship she captured bronze medals on the uneven parallel bars and vault, won the gold medal on the balance beam and floor exercise, then captured the state championship in the All-round competition.
Later that spring at the state club level, Courntey also won the all-round VA Club state championship, but a knee injury prevented her from competing at the national meet.
More importantly over the last 4 years, Courtney lead the “wildcats” to four consecutive Southeastern District/Conference team titles, two region runner-up and one region team championship, and state team finishes of 3rd in 2013 and the VHSL state championship in 2011 and 2014.
At Bridgewater College, Courtney is a member of the track program that recently captured the ODAC women’s indoor track championship where she specializes in the high jump and pole vaulting. Courtney recently completed her first semester at Bridgewater College with a Grade Point Average of 4.0. She is majoring in biology, with minors in wildlife management and equine science. Her ultimate goal is to receive her veterinarian license and become a horse physical therapist.
