Chesapeake Sports Club April 2025 Luncheon

Carl Summerell is a native of Virginia Beach, VA and alumnus of Kellam High School. Following high school he attended, East Carolina University where he became one of the most talented football players to ever come out of the East Carolina’s football program, playing for the Pirates from 1970-73.
Summerell started out his freshman year in all his glory, winning the Outstanding Freshman Award in 1970. While at the quarterback position for the Pirates, Summerell was twice named honorable mention All-America.
From 1972-74, Summerell was selected to the All-Southern Conference Team and was the named the Pirates’ Most Valuable Player in 1972 and ’73.
Summerell was named the 1973 Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year. He participated in the Annual Blue-Gray All-Star Game that same year.
Summerell finished his ECU career by passing for 198 completions and 2,859 yards total. After graduating from East Carolina, he moved to the National Football League and the New York Giants as quarterback.
