2019 Scholarship Recipients – Congratulations to these outstanding seniors!
Atlantic Shores – Taylor Sergent
Taylor is the son of Charles and Pamela Sergent. He has lettered in soccer where he has earned numerous distinctions. He serves as class president and is a member of the National Honor Society. With a 4.31 GPA, Taylor plans to attend West Virginia University to study criminology and political science.
Deep Creek – Jordan Ogle
Jordan is the daughter of Ms. Sara Schuse. Jordan is captain of the Swim Team and plays varsity softball. She is enrolled in the Science and Medicine Academy and holds memberships in the National Honor Society, the Student Council, the Key Club and the Ruriteen Club. She sings in the Advanced Treble Choir and is active in her church. Jordan has a 4.33 average and will attend Liberty University to pursue a career to help children.
Deep Creek – Yosef Woods
Yosef is the son of Yosef and Barbara Woods. He lettered in football and track and field at Deep Creek. He serves as vice-president of the senior class, president of the Men of Excellence Mentoring Program and a member of the National Honor Society. With a 4.49 GPA, Yosef plans to attend North Carolina A & T to major in mechanical engineering.
Grassfield High School – Kaeleb Cielo
Kaeleb is the son of Victoria Cielo. At Grassfield, Kaeleb is captain of the varsity cheerleaders and member of the men’s dive team. His cheer team has won a state championship every year of his high school career. He was named VHSL Cheerleader of the Year in 2018. Kaeleb also participates in the Student Council Association and multiple honor societies. He has a 4.509 GPA and will attend VA Commonwealth University to major in Mass Communications.
Great Bridge High School – Carson Black
Carson is the son of Kirk and Karen Black. He is a 3-star athlete at Great Bridge – lettering in football, wrestling and baseball. Carson has served as a class officer and a student council officer. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. With a 4.45 GPA he will attend Virginia Tech in the fall to major in engineering.
Greenbrier Christian Academy – John Inskeep
JT is the son of Chris and Susie Inskeep. He is an accomplished Basketball and Baseball player at Greenbrier Christian. He serves as secretary of the student government association and is a member of the Beta Club. JT has a 4.07 grade point average. He will attend VMI in the fall to major in economics and business.
Hickory High School – Rebecca Keough
Rebecca is the daughter of Sherry Keough and the late Michael Keough. She lettered in Gymnastics at Hickory High. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society and plays community lacrosse. She has a 4.4 Grade Point Average. In the fall, Rebecca will attend Longwood University to major in Pre-Kinesiology.
Hickory High School – Sarah Sullivan
Sarah is the daughter of Patrick and Vicki Sullivan. Lettering in both Varsity Competition Cheer and Gymnastics for four years and tennis for two years, Sarah is an officer in both the SCA and National Honor Society. She also represented her class on the Homecoming Court. Sarah has a 4.4 GPA and will attend Old Dominion University in the fall to major in dentistry.
Indian River High School – Kaylin Belcher
Kaylin is the daughter of Eric and Deborah Belcher. Kaylin is the captain of Indian River’s Softball Team. She is also a member of the SCA, the National Honor Society, the Key Club, and treasurer of the National English Honor Society. With a 4.59 GPA she will attend the University of Virginia to major in Biochemistry.
Indian River High School – Ajanee Robinson
Ajanee is the granddaughter of Gail Gaines. Ajanee lettered in Basketball and was named 1st team all – district in both her junior and senior years. She serves as President of the Future Business Leaders of America and is a member of the SCA and National Honor Society. With a GPA of 3.63, Ajanee will attend North Carolina A&T to major in Computer Engineering.
Oscar Smith High School – Jordan Young
Jordan is the son of James and Tracey Young. He has lettered in Varsity Baseball and serves as Captain of the team. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of the Senior Class, and Vice President of Marketing in the DECA Club. He has a 4.1 GPA and will attend North Carolina A&T in the fall to major in Marketing.
Western Branch High School – Richard Kyte
Richard is the son of Christopher and Cynthia Kyte. Richard is a year-round athlete lettering in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field and serving as Captain in all three sports. He is the President of the Senior Class, a member of the National Honor Society, and serves as a Western Branch Marshall Ambassador. With a 4.16 GPA, Richard will attend Virginia Tech in the fall to major in Computer Science.
In 2017, the Chesapeake Sports Club lost one of our founding members and inaugural President – Buddy Bagley. Although we miss his presence, enthusiasm and commitment to our club, we are pleased to honor his memory with Robert G. Buddy Bagley Community Service Award.
Buddy was a true communitarian – always participating in worthwhile endeavors and giving of himself to benefit others.
In addition to reviewing the scholarship applications and choosing recipients, the scholarship committee evaluated the community service resumes of each of our winners and selected the ONE recipient that we felt best emulated Buddy’s Communitarian Spirit.
