Speaking January 13th is Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Executive Director – Will Driscoll.

Webb has been the hall’s executive director for 24 years and will leave his official position on February 1, according to a release from the organization. Norfolk native Will Driscoll has been tapped to take over.
“It has been my distinct honor to serve the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in this capacity for 24 years,” said Webb in the release. “The time is right for me to step down, as the Hall continues its transition with a focus on outreach, engagement and a digital prescense.”
In the years since Webb joined the hall in 1995, it’s grown from one room in Portsmouth’s old city hall building to its current incarnation in Virginia Beach Town Center, which has focused on events and other programs throughout the year in an effort to bring more engagement than a typical museum.
Webb will continue in a consulting role during the transition period.
“I am extremely excited for this opportunity to continue the mission of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame,” said Driscoll in the release. “While we must continue honoring the past with our annual Induction Weekend events, I want to provide a platform that allows our inductees, and supporters the opportunity to engage in our efforts 365 days a year.”
Driscoll, who’s also the husband of WAVY’s Katie Collett, joined the organization in 2017 to help with marketing and fundraising, organizing events such as “Hoos on First,” which brought current MLB and former University of Virginia baseball players Ryan Zimmerman, Chris Taylor and Mark Reynolds to the Virginia Beach Funny Bone, and “757th Inning Stretch,” which brought Chesapeake natives and MLB players David Wright and Michael Cuddyer to the Zeiders American Dream Theater. “The Madness Begins” brought local college basketball coaches and sports reporters, including CBS Sports’ Seth Davis, together to talk college hoops before the 2018-19 season.
“Will has a passion and respect for sports in Virginia, that will serve this position well,” Webb said. “He has a great sense of history, and combines that with a focus on the present and an eyes towards the future. I am very excited for what the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame can become, and will continue to assist in any way I can.”
