Kyle McMullin was introduced as Christopher Newport’s Director of Athletics on May 12, 2016. He was elevated to the position by President Paul Trible following a national search.
McMullin has served the athletic department in various capacities since 2008. He has overseen all of the department’s fundraising efforts including the athletics annual fund — the Captains Crew — all major gift donors and prospects for athletics — the Royal Court — and the growth of the corporate sponsorship program.
A native of Blacksburg, McMullin is a 2004 graduate of the University of Richmond with a degree in Business Administration. During his time at Richmond, he worked extensively in the athletic department, first in the ticket office and then assisting with the marketing and promotion of all varsity sports.
Beginning in June of 2010, McMullin became the Assistant Director of Athletics for Advancement and Communications and took over daily oversight of the department’s communication efforts. Adding responsibility for all athletic publications and the official athletics site, CNUsports.com, McMullin has worked closely with the athletic communications staff to ensure consistent messaging and promotion of Christopher Newport’s entire athletic program.
In the summer of 2011, Kyle coordinated the release of a new brand identity for CNU athletics. As the lead on the brand project, he served as the primary contact with the design agency, the Silverman Group, during the design of the new brand identity while also planning the implementation of a comprehensive brand redesign.
Kyle has also overseen CNU’s trademark licensing program since its inception in April of 2011. Working regularly with the university’s licensing partner, the Licensing Resource Group, Kyle assists with the management of relationships with local retailers and officially licensed vendors.
Between his time at the University of Richmond and his arrival at Christopher Newport in 2008, McMullin spent four years with ISP Sports at the University of Cincinnati where he worked to grow revenue by building relationships with corporate sponsors of UC athletics. He also served as the primary liaison between ISP and the UC athletics marketing office to ensure complete integration of sponsored promotions, ticketing and marketing.
Following his time at the University of Cincinnati, Kyle moved on to Villanova University to assist ISP Sports with their corporate sponsorship program. During his year at Villanova, he worked with corporate partners and helped them utilize their sponsorship of Wildcat athletics.
McMullin and his wife Lynn have two children, Caroline and Nathan, and reside in Newport News.
