The Chesapeake Sports Club Legends of Honor Award was established to recognize and honor former
outstanding athletes, coaches and individuals for their athletic performance, leadership and/or
contributions to athletics in Chesapeake, including the areas formed by the City of Chesapeake in 1963
(Norfolk County and South Norfolk). Individuals selected will be recognized at a monthly meeting of the Club.
eligibility requirements
A nominee shall have brought honor and recognition to the athletic programs within the city and:
1. Have been a student at a school within the current city boundaries.
2. Have been a resident or worked within the current city boundaries.
selection requirements
1. Athletics – athletic performance, team contributions, achievements and/or leadership in
sports competition as evidenced by:
a. Post-season honors, such as All-American, All-State, All District, etc.
b. Advanced to post-season competition such as State, Regional, and National
championships or All-Star team selection.
c. Record setting performance.
d. Winning individual championships
e. Holding the position of team captain
f. Athletic achievement after graduation from High School, including participation and
achievement in college, professional, Olympic, and amateur athletics, but only as a
complement to the individual’s athletic career while in Chesapeake.
2. Coaches/Other – Individuals, coaches, administrators, and others who have substantially enhanced the athletic program(s) within the city through their leadership
and support.
nominations
1. Only a club member may make nominations for this award.
2. No individual may self-nominate.
3. Nominations may be submitted at any time.
4. Nominations will be on a form as approved by the Chesapeake Sports Club and contain
information pertinent to the individual’s achievements.
5. It is recommended that nominees for this award shall be recognized after a minimum of
30 years of their achievement(s), unless there are extenuating circumstances.
6. Nominees (coaches/other) for other than athletic achievement shall have had at least 15
years of contributions and support to athletics in Chesapeake.
7. Individuals (deceased) may be nominated for a posthumous award if their achievements
are within the guidelines established for the award.
